Community Center

The Community Center is a welfare institute that aims to foster the spiritual, social-cultural formation of children, youth and adult by conveying moral values and norms.

The institute therefore focuses on the following specific objectives:

  • To promote spiritual and personal growth.

  • To form good character traits and to provide teaching from the word of God.

  • To work on good behavioral patterns and attitudes to the new generation.

  • To develop social-cultural education.

  • To work on good behavioral patterns and attitudes their fellow man.

  • To promote health.

  • To prevent sickness by encouraging a good diet (healthy habit of eating) and to promote

    physical care and exercise.

  • To promote security and stability in the family situation.

  • To feel safe in one’s own family and to have stability in the family.

  • Enhancing of social self-sufficiency.

  • To learn how to live on a budget and to invest in a savings plan (a safety net).

Under construction

The center offers all kinds of activities that can contribute to better living conditions, mental and social position and activation of the population and in particular of the residents of the neighborhood; Mon Repos. The center also serves as a meeting place for young and old and as an important connecting element for the nearby neighborhoods, such as: Groot Kwartier, Rancho, Brievengat, Tra’i Seru Sun Valley & Schelpwijk. There will be spaces to exercise various sports, and spaces for recreational purposes. A family park will be built for families to recreate in the nature.

The Alpha and Omega Foundation works in close cooperation with the Daughters of the King Foundation. The Daughters of the King Foundation acts as an orphanage for young girls (ladies) of the ages of 0 to 18 years that are abandoned, desolated, and mistreated in order to give them a better living.

Vision

Problems in the neighboring districts, i.e.; Groot Kwartier, Brievengat, Rancho, Tra’i Seru. Research has shown that in the districts of Groot Kwartier, Brievengat, Rancho and Tra’i Seru

different problems exist on the social-economic area and on spiritual and personal area.

The problems identified on social-economic areas, are:

  • -  High percentage of teenage mothers;

  • -  Great risk for youth group (crime; drugs and alcohol-use);

  • -  Few activities for youngsters;

  • -  Sense of unsureness (insecurity);

  • -  Few facilities for sport and recreation;

  • -  Lots of backlog, unemployment and poverty;

  • -  Few opportunities for education, training, formation and self-development;

  • -  Lack of recreational space for young and adults;

  • -  Insufficient playgrounds for children under the age 12.

    The problems identified on spiritual and personal field:

  • -  Delay in dealing with others;

  • -  Backlog in the norms and values.

    Our vision is to achieve in a 10 years’ time-span, a drastic change in the above-mentioned problems in the districts of Groot Kwartier, Brievengat, Rancho and Tra’i Seru. We will achieve

    the vision by executing the planned activities to be carried out by the Community Center Alpha & Omega.

Community Center Alpha & Omega

Target group

The project focus on children, youth, adults and families. The project focus on children aged 0 –

8, on pre-teens aged 9 – 12, on the youth aged 13 – 17, on young adults aged 18 – 26, and

adults from 27 years and older. It also focuses on women and in some cases on one parent (women) household, and on women that underwent mental abuse. In other words, on families in general.

Activities


In its activities, the Community Center tries to offer the best possible support on the field of spiritual, cultural and social education and offers, among other things, the following activities:

  • -  Educational activities on social, cultural and/or religious field such as workshops (lectures), seminars, music, drama and dance, cultural-religious exchange with the youth in the Caribbean area, prayer meetings, courses for the youth on manners, choice of partner and intimate (sexual) education.

  • -  Offering activities to elders to increase their spiritually, mentally and physical health, and to foster extracurricular and social participation by stimulating an active lifestyle and meaningful leisure activities.

  • -  Conducting workshops, congresses, conferences, seminars, trainings, educational courses and leadership courses for young and adults.

  • -  To educate on parenting competence and skills to parents to make them aware of the possibilities of positively influencing the behavior of their children.

  • -  After-school care and holiday activities throughout the holiday season.

  • -  To give advice and guidance to individuals and groups

  • -  Providing night- and daycare (shelter) and guidance to people who live in seriously

    threatening home situation or asylum in the event of calamities.
